I've had mixed feelings about the cascade of subscription cancellations to the Washington Post over the "anticipatory obedience" non-endorsement thing. For reasons of life-altering personal experience I don't normally talk about, as much as anything. But after reading a bunch of folks saying “don’t cancel because you don’t know what it’s like to put your career and family on the line so STFU and don’t judge”, I wanted to share some thoughts. As someone who has.

Spoiler: it cost me just about everything. It was also never really a choice.

If you’re wondering what this has to do with climate and our usual beat here? We’ll get to that. Walk with me. If you like.
