Tiny Vermont brandishes a climate damages stick, because carrots won't get it done. They won't be the last.

I love Vermont. And it’s the season of the sticks.

“You can always count on Americans to do the right thing — after they’ve tried everything else.”

Last week the Green Mountain State, despite its Republican governor warning of the likely ruinous costs of defending it against a legal onslaught the likes of which the world has never seen, became the first jurisdiction on Earth to enact a law that will require Big Oil to compensate a government for causing climate damage to its infrastructure.
